THE FIRST 48 Crime + Investigat­ion 135, 8.30pm

Ask any detective, and they will tell you that if they don’t have a lead, suspect or an arrest within the first 48 hours, their chances of solving a case are cut in half. This long-running series follows homicide detectives during these initial critical hours as they race against time to solve a variety of heinous cases. In tonight’s episode, a young man in the US state of Atlanta returns home for lunch and catches a brazen thief in the act, which leads to murder. Meanwhile, an ongoing feud between two gang members in Tulsa, Oklahoma results in a fateful encounter.

ALASKA: THE LAST FRONTIER Animal Planet 141, 5.30pm

This long-running series follows the Kilcher family, who live on a homestead near Homer, Alaska as they deal with the day-to-day challenges of life without the use of modern amenities. In tonight’s season three premiere, cabin fever sets in after a bitterly cold winter that’s lasted an astonishin­g eight months. There’s trouble ahead when Eivin and Atz venture out to hunt for an Alaskan delicacy. Meanwhile, Otto comes up with an ingenious idea to get an orphan calf to connect with an unwilling mother, which turns out to be a very messy encounter indeed. If you’ve ever wondered what life is like away from the gruelling nine-to-five slog, settle in for quite the adventure.

INDUSTRY Fox Showcase 112, 7.30pm

This new British series follows a group of hungry, young graduates competing for survival at Pierpoint & Co, a leading bank in London, as they’re thrown head-first into the exhilarati­ng whirlpool of internatio­nal finance. The five graduates include Harper (Myha’la Herrold, pictured), a New York native; Hari (Nabhaan Rizwan), a state-school graduate; Gus (David Jonsson), a gay graduate of Eton; Robert (Harry Lawtey), a working-class Oxford graduate; and Yasmin (Marisa Abela), a privileged young woman with a troubled boyfriend. In tonight’s episode, Robert throws a narcotic-fuelled gathering for Harper’s birthday and the pair stay up all night in a haze of drink and drugs. Expect her to sober up quick sticks the next day when she discovers a discrepanc­y in one of her trades will cost the company a staggering £50,000.
