BABY FORCES GEAR CHANGE

- CRYSTAL FOX

V8 supercar driver Tim Slade and model/pilates trainer Danielle Byrnes are loving life with their “unicorn baby”.

The pair welcomed Jordan six months ago and have adapted to parenthood.

Ms Byrnes, 34, said the first couple of months “were a bit of a rough start”, but nothing most parents wouldn’t experience.

“He’s been a blessed baby for us, he sleeps through the nights, he eats everything he’s given and he doesn't cry,” Ms Byrnes said.

“I have a bit of a unicorn baby, although I have been warned if we have another one it is meant to be a terror.”

Mr Slade, 35, had the year off from racing in 2020 due to COVID, although the forced break worked in their favour.

“He had all of last year off, so that was handy when I was pregnant and when I had him, but he is now back into his busy schedule,” Ms Byrnes said.

“He raced in the Bathurst 1000, nine days after Jordan was born.

“Then we had to do a quarantine at the border bubble (Tweed Heads) for 14 days … with a newborn!” Ms Byrnes said.

For two decades Ms Byrnes has suffered from chronic period pain and endometriosis but said her pregnancy was a “breeze”.

“It was the best pregnancy, my body loved it,” she said.

Ms Byrnes went back to work 10 weeks after she had Jordan and felt more relaxed then ever.

“I’m enjoying this new lifestyle, I thought life was going to get busier but in fact it slowed me down, it was probably the change I needed,” Ms Byrnes said.

“I’m absorbing all of this family life and really enjoying it.”
