FLEET-FOOTED FLYER, CUP-QUALITY PLAYMAKER ONES TO WATCH AT BURLEIGH

- TAINE TUAUPIKI FULLBACK/FIVE-EIGHTH

THE Coombabah State High School product has come through Burleigh’s Colts system and after being used as a plug-and-play option at multiple outside back positions last season is ready to take the next step under coach Matt Foster.

Tuaupiki has speed to rival Bears Intrust Super Cup fullback Kurtis Rowe, according to Foster, and if he can live up to the expectations of his coach, will be a dangerous weapon for the Burleigh side this season.

Tuaupiki offered a glimpse of his talent in the pre-season competition and was earmarked for Chairman’s Challenge honours before an ankle injury ruled him out.

Able to play anywhere in the backline, expect Tuaupiki to play predominantly at fullback in 2021 as the Bears chase grand final glory.

AN Intrust Super Cupstandard playmaker in the eyes of coach Matt Foster, Toia is one of the best halves in Coast football.

With a quality kicking game and stellar football IQ to boot, Toia would be a walk-up starter in any A-grade team in the state.

Add to that his leadership credentials – he was recently named captain of the Gold Coast Vikings’ Chairman’s Challenge team – and you have a near-complete package capable of engineering a comeback or holding a lead.

Partnered alongside the electric Shallin Fuller, who would also not be out of place on a ones to watch list, Toia is primed for another standout campaign and it’s in his hands the Bears place much of their premiership hope in.

The only issue might be if the ISC team comes knocking.
