COAST’S QAFL SWEEP

BROADBEACH talisman Jordan Moncrieff and Bond University skipper Shannon Danckert have taken out the QAFL and QAFLW best and fairest honours at AFL Queensland’s annual awards night.

Moncrieff, who will line up in the QAFL grand final on Saturday, also took home the leading goalkicker gong and was named in the team of the season.

He polled 19 votes to win, while Danckert topped the QAFLW tally with 16.

ALL Jordan Moncrieff needs now is a premiershi­p medal around his neck and he’ll have capped the perfect season.

The Broadbeach Cats spearhead, who will line-up in the QAFL grand final on Saturday, has taken out a trio of prestigiou­s awards at the AFL Queensland State League awards night.

In just his second QAFL season, Moncrieff polled 19 votes to win the prestigiou­s JA Grogan Medal as the competitio­n’s best and fairest player.

The Cats’ key forward also won the Ray Hughson Medal as the leading goalkicker and was named in the QAFL Team of the Year.

Moncrieff (pictured) was named best on ground four times and polled votes in eight of his 12 games.

He kicked 55 goals at an average of more than four per game to help Broadbeach to a second-place finish at the end of the regular season. Meanwhile, Bond University captain Shannon Danckert polled 16 votes to win the inaugural Emma Zielke Medal as the QAFLW’s best and fairest player.

Danckert was voted best on ground on three occasions and polled in eight of her 13 games, helping Bond to the QAFLW grand final where the Bullsharks fell narrowly short against University of Queensland.

Palm Beach Currumbin’s Jonathan Croad took home the Syd Guildford Trophy as the QAFL Most Valued Player as voted by coaches.

He twice received a perfect 10-from-10 votes and polled nine times in 13 games.

Labrador’s Cooper Anderson was named QAFL Rising Star after a stellar season that included 23 goals in 13 games.

Joining Moncrieff in the Team of the Year were three other Broadbeach teammates.

Minor premiers Labrador had the most inclusions with six, including coach Nick Malceski. Surfers Paradise had two and Palm Beach Currumbin one player named in the 22man merit squad (see below).
