THREE men accused of a daylight shooting in a bizarre confrontation over an allegedly stolen $280,000 luxury Mercedes car will spend at least the next week in custody.

Joel Hindson, 25, Leum Kostopoulos, 29, and Bronson Samuel Godfrey, 29, faced the Southport Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with deprivation of liberty, committing acts of violence intending to maim, robbery with violence, extortion and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Police will allege Theodore Penemenos, 27, was shot in the leg after trying to strike a deal for the return of a stolen 2020 Mercedes Benz S450L.

It is alleged he had gone to meet the men at a Southport apartment when he was held at rifle point and shot. Police were called when Mr Penemenos went to a nearby Asian grocery store to ask for help.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Police allege the altercation was sparked on Thursday night, when Mr Penemenos agreed to meet a friend in Budds Beach. There he was approached by two men in a maroon Mitsubishi Outlander who allegedly threatened him with a Glock handgun before stealing the Mercedes.

It will be alleged Mr Penemenos had a phone call that night and asked his parents to transfer $4000 to negotiate the safe return of the vehicle.

Mr Penemenos went to Southport Central Tower on Friday and was allegedly shot in the leg by Joel Hindson.

The 25-year-old allegedly muffled the shot with a pillow.

Hindson, Kostopoulos and Godfrey were not required to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Saturday.

The trio did not apply for bail and remain in custody. The court heard they were expected to apply for bail later.

Kostopoulos’ case was adjourned until November 19, while Hindson and Godfrey will reappear on December 9.
