BROADBEACH TOWER PLAN

- QUENTIN TOD

A FAMILY company started in Brisbane more than 50 years ago is heading to Broadbeach with high and classy ambitions for an owner-occupier apartment tower.

The 46-level Casa Beach, at the southern end of Old Burleigh Rd overlooking the Broadbeach Bowls Club, is intended to be a jewel in the crown for the Ferro Property Group.

It will be the second Gold Coast project for the multifaceted design and development entity – it completed the 10-level Modena on Chevron in 2009.

Managing director Marco Ferro said Casa would have 58 luxurious “homes in the sky” aimed squarely at owneroccupiers.

“They’ll be people who want space and don’t want to live in buildings with 10 apartments on each floor and with a traffic jam while waiting for lifts.

“They’ll also appreciate that they can’t lose their views over the bowls club and to the ocean over the surf club.”

Casa Beach will have 58 three and four-bedroom apartments and a two-level penthouse, and resident facilities on levels three and 44. It is planned on a $13m, 1283sq m site at 99 and 101 Old Burleigh Rd.

The Kollosche agency’s Simon Worthington, who amalgamated the holding, said it was one that other developers had unsuccessfully eyed over the years.

“This time around, the sellers were very happy with the result,” he said.

The Casa Beach site comprises five-title low-rise Casa Del Mar and a commercial property occupied by Lola’s cafe, a BWS outlet and a fish shop.

The commercial holding has been sold by property figure Bob Hill, who bought it for $1.8m in 2004.

A development application for Casa Beach, designed by the Ferro Chow practice and which will be marketed by Kollosche, was lodged last week.

Its three-bedroom apartments, on floors four to 21, will be 224sq m, and the single-floor, four-bedroom titles 332sq m.

Mr Ferro said prices were expected to start at $1.9m and peak at about $4.5m.

He said the penthouse, which would cover more than 600sq m, had yet to be priced.
