LIFE CHEW SHORT FOR MEAT BARON

- KYLE WISNIEWSKI

IN THE past year, Damian Hall has gone from being a Super Butcher to owning the whole South East Queensland retail chain.

Now he wants to expand the gourmet meat supplier and provide over 100 jobs.

Mr Hall – who has a background in operating child care centres – started his crusade by wanting to help run his Super Butcher store at Oxenford.

Owned by the McDonald family, a deal was made and Mr Hall ended up buying the whole South East Queensland retail chain.

Mr Hall said Super Butcher would be expanding from two Gold Coast stores at Ashmore and Oxenford to four in the new year.

This will include moving its Ashmore location to a bigger facility at Central Park Ave.

A Southport store will join Market Organics and City Cave in an extension of the Ferry Road Tavern owned by Hotel Property Investment, according to Mr Hall.

He said another site had been found at the new Gold Coast Highway-fronting shopping centre on the corner of Markeri St in Mermaid Beach.

“Those three stores alone will bring 100 new employment opportunities to the

Gold Coast,” Mr Hall said.

“We feel like we’re providing to the community not just the commerce of the business.”

Since taking over the business, Mr Hall has been working with HR guru Jade Green from Barrels and Business to keep staff happy.

“Damian works to make sure his employees are respected and have fun,” Ms Green said.

“He provides opportunities for his employees. They have an employee who has worked from the clean-up crew as a teenager and is now a GM at 27 years old.”
