TUTORS FOR ALL WILL HELP YOU ACE THAT SCORE

- EMILY TOXWARD

THE state’s brightest young minds have hatched a plan to offer affordable tutoring to Gold Coast students in a bid to reduce educational inequality.

Among the tutors is Vishaak Gangasandra, who was Queensland’s top student in 2020 receiving an ATAR score of 100, and medical students Rion Ahl and Andrew Kroger. All tutors have received a 99.95 or 98+ in their respective Year 12 students.

Mr Ahl said at its core, 100Coach was a team of former Queensland high school students who wanted to give back to their community.

“We want to provide affordable, accomplished tuition to students and our vision has been designed to reduce educational inequality,” said Mr Ahl.

“They say you are the average of the five people you spend your time with and we want one of those people to be the highest performer in the state to help you ace Year 12.

“The way education works now is that people who go to well-resourced schools get more help leading to better scores and the cycle continues, we really want to break this.”

Mr Ahl said his team would provide online classes at $20 an hour from tutors who scored the highest scores in the state.

“The online format allows all students to join without the need for travel, minimising regional-metro education inequality and opening education to a broader audience,” he said.

“By charging as little as one quarter of the typical tutoring charge students would receive when seeking tutoring, 100Coach’s mission is to provide accessible education to all and pass on strategies typically taught only at wellresourced schools.

“At the moment we do maths, sciences and English for just $20 an hour.”
