Witnesses in Harris hearing ‘no memory of night’

- LEA EMERY

THREE witnesses who gave police statements about the fatal stabbing of Raymond Harris in Surfers Paradise told the court they had no recollection of the night.

They also claimed on Tuesday that they did not remember giving the statements to police. One of the witnesses, Luca Rosemeyer, told the court he had no recollection of talking to police.

“I was heavily under the influence of medications at the time,” he said.

Mr Rosemeyer said he had been heavily using benzodiazepines at the time so his recollection was “spotty”.

He said he did not have any recollection of the night, including if he was in a Surfers Paradise unit.

Defence barrister Simon Lewis, instructed by Dib Associates, asked if he did not remember because he was not at the Peninsula Drive unit. Mr Rosemeyer replied: “I am unsure. I do not remember.”

The second witness, Liam Taylor, was also having similar memory problems, claiming he could not remember the night or giving a statement to police due to his heavy drug use, which included smoking ice.

“I don’t really remember anything from that night. I had gone on a bender three or four months after that pretty hard,” he said.

He said he remembered picking up his phone from the police, but did not know how police got it. Mr Taylor said police had told him he had a bowie knife in a Peninsular Drive unit the night of the stabbing. “I believe that was half the reason I was called in but I can’t really remember,” Mr Taylor said.

Asked if anyone else at the unit had a knife, Mr Taylor replied: “You don’t really hold a knife out when you are around people unless you are going to stab them.” Mr Taylor said reading back his statement had not sparked any memories apart from getting an Uber to Coomera that night.

Robin Napier also told the court she did not remember giving a statement to police, due to heavy drug use.
