Lancaster bomber walks

- MELANIE WHITING

A COOMERA man has walked from court after police found cocaine, knuckledusters, ammunition and testosterone during a raid of his home.

Ryan John Lancaster pleaded guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday to eight charges, including possessing dangerous drugs and unlawful possession of weapons. Police found five grams of cocaine, jars containing testosterone and a synthetic steroid, ammunition and knuckledusters when they raided Lancaster’s Coomera home on January 5.

All the drugs found were for personal use, the court was told.

Lancaster’s lawyer Daniel McShane said his client had no previous criminal history, until a series of life events led to him becoming addicted to cocaine.

Mr McShane said the 25year-old was hospitalised and forced to take a significant time off work in 2020 after he was hit by a car.

He suffered a neck injury, damaged meniscus, concussion and spent four days recovering in hospital, the court was told.

“At this point, he is with a particular partner who certainly wasn’t a positive influence on my client. He then delves into the world of drugs,” Mr McShane said.

“At the time when police go and conduct this search warrant, it’s a significant wake-up call for him.

“He is captured by police in what I would submit is the lowest period of his life.”

Mr McShane said his client had turned his life around – had stopped using drugs and gained full-time employment at a motorcycle shop.

Several of Lancaster’s family members were in court to support him.

Taking into account his guilty plea and lack of criminal history, Magistrate Janice Crawford sentenced Lancaster to a two-year probation order.

All the items were forfeited to police.

Convictions were recorded.
