OFF THE RECORD

- WITH PETER & REGINA

Good to see that the gals are still focusing on the important things when it comes to finding a suitable male. Among the desperate and dateless there has been much excitement about a new catch. The conversation went something like this. What’s he like? Well he’s rich, super-rich. Yes, but what’s he like? He has a megamillion mansion. No seriously – is he a nice man, good-looking, kind, thoughtful? Did we mention that he’s super-rich and has a mega-million mansion? Those pesky details about character and good company can be ironed out after he’s been landed. Oscar Wilde was correct when he said, “By persistently remaining single, a man converts himself into a public temptation”.

You get what you pay for in this world. Out at a social event this dame was showing off her brand new pair of “follow me home” designer heels, which normally cost more than a holiday in Bali (presuming you don’t have to pay for extra nights due to flight delays). Then she made a big mistake by turning on her heel, literally, and blew a shoe. Strange for such an expensive pair, but then the awful truth was revealed. The soles were cardboard and simply glued together to make them look like the real deal. Fake, faux and then some. Oh! The shame! Back home she went to pick up a new pair, hopefully where some leather and stitching was used.

Under promise and over deliver is always the best way to go. Perhaps this couple should bear that in mind the next time – if there is a next time – they decide to do a launch. The word was spread, excitement generated and many turned up expecting something very special. As we are kind and thoughtful folk, we’ll just say that the “lavish” food spread was more akin to the loaves and fishes BEFORE the miracle. No feeding of the multitude here with some unsavoury pushing and shoving by guests as they attempted to feed themselves before it all ran out. As for the “show” it was a little over 10 minutes of something that looked patched together at the last minute. Best of luck trying to do another one.
