Trump: docs are mine and not secret

-

WASHINGTON: Lawyers for former US president Donald Trump have argued that documents seized from his Florida home were his and were not classified.

The criminal investigation into Mr Trump’s alleged retention of secret papers has “spiralled out of control”, his lawyers said, urging a judge to stick with her appointment of an independent assessor.

The US Department of Justice lawyers have said the appointment will hinder its investigation and it will appeal to a higher court if the judge refuses to let it get on with analysing what was found.

Mr Trump’s lawyers did not suggest the former president had declassified the documents – a claim he has made but not in any court filings. But they dispute the DoJ view they are classified, and reject any suggestions that they were shown to other people.

“In what at its core is a document storage dispute that has spiralled out of control, the government wrongfully seeks to criminalise the possession by the 45th president of his own presidential and personal records,” the lawyers wrote.

“The government now seeks to limit the scope of any review of its investigative conduct and presuppose the outcome, at least as regards to what it deems are ‘classified records’,” they added.

The lawyers said that “there is no indication any purported ‘classified records’ were disclosed to anyone” and that they were “principally located in storage boxes in a locked room at Mar-a-Lago”.

Aileen Cannon, a district judge appointed under Mr Trump (pictured), is being asked by the government to overturn her ruling appointing an independent assessor.

The FBI says it found 18 documents labelled top secret and 54 marked secret in 15 boxes of papers seized on August 8. In June, a lawyer for Mr Trump had signed a letter to say that there was no more classified material at Mr Trump’s home in Palm Beach.

One of the Queen’s great strengths was she was clever enough to stay out of politics. Don’t think King Climate Change got the memo. How to alienate 50% of the population right up front !!

You can cop a large fine for having a dog off leash or on the wrong part of the beach. But you can literally be on the doorstep of the council chambers at the HOTA market each week with your dog and thumb your nose at council. People eating, buying food and enjoying a morning at the markets where you can’t miss big signs that say no dogs! But you can see them scattered throughout the markets? Where are the dog patrol handing out fines? Can’t be worried about overtime as they are all over the place on public holidays to nab you? GN It seems whenever we have a major event, like floods, bushfires and just now, the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, in television land, everything else stops. They’re obsessed. Nothing else matters. We are swamped with overkill. And, every 2 bit nobody puts in their 2 cents worth. Yet, in the real world, life goes on and THE EVENT barely gets a mention. Martin Oxenford Hypocracy coming from a Prime Minister. Only 2 weeks ago, Anthony Albanese was saying he wants Australia to escape the clutches of the Royal Family, demand our independence and become a Republic. Now the Queen has passed away, he made a speech saying how much she meant to him and all Australians. If there is something the annoys me, it’s hypocracy, especially coming from a PM. Rhonda.

What a joke another public holiday for the Queen’s death, what about a public holiday for the day Australia becomes a REPUBLIC.

Thanks Albo, thousands of appointments including hospital operations will have to be re scheduled on the 22nd. George

Geezuz, keep your bloody hair on Rovers Return! Was a simple question asking if working a few hours was worth ALL the hassle of dealing with Centrelink or just continue managing on pension! Sheesh!

Toll road fees are indirect taxes on road users resulting from an abrogation of responsibility by governments. Regardless of whether Geelong or Sydney make the AFL grand final this year after just one game in a month, it’s time to put the issue to bed. As finals are a new competition increase it by 4 games by having the first 2 weeks only on a home and away with winners on aggregate to progress. The negatives are minimal such as loss of home ground advantage for the elimination games in particular, but the positives are many. More people attending finals as well as giving the winners of the top 4, two games before there preliminary finals. As for occasionally the same teams in the same city twice, that’s a positive as the more derbies and blockbuster finals games in Melbourne the better. DS. NRL games would be more competitive, and therefore better spectacles, if a team that scores a try, re-starts the game by kicking, instead of receiving, the ball. Another improvement would be to hand the ball over to the other team after

failing to ground the ball when attempting to score a try. The team had an attempt to score and failed so why get to retain the ball?

Mother Nature should spank us. Mankind is but a blink in the history of the planet yet we arrogantly act far above our real worth. Nature and evolution are our masters while we stupidly play convoluted political and power games destined for the dustbin.

Good on ya Pauline Hanson, that Greenies senator’s comment tweet about the Queen was disgusting. She immigrated to Australia and she tweeted that the Queen was a leader

of a racist empire and built on stolen lives. Pauline said to her “You took citizenship, bought multiple homes and now have a job in parliament, so it’s clear you’re not happy, pack your bags and p--- off. “Well done Pauline. Anyone not happy here should think about how lucky they really are. Cheers KB Tweed

Granben, Reference The Donald and allegations of holding top secret documents. It’s Hilary who should be in the dock. She was found to illegally holding and storing classified papers and got off scot free thanks to her mate Comey. The President however is the sole arbiter of deciding what is or isn’t classified and the mere removal declassifies them. You might want to ask what happened to the 3 million documents Obama took some of which are known to be classified. Darryle Knowles, Southport

I’m very glad Charles has said he’s dropping his climate alarmism while he’s King. Because in his last year as a climate-alarmed Prince he took 20 private jet flights within the UK to “avoid traffic”. Juss Sayen
