Experts share their top tips for The Everest and Caulfield Cup

-

THE News Corp Racing and Sports Wagering team have put together an expert panel to give you the early inside running on feature races in Melbourne and Sydney this spring.

The panel of five will offer their early thoughts on the Group 1 races and other feature contests during the spring.

Here are the experts’ futures tips for The Everest and Caulfield Cup. Prices shown are from TAB.com.au.

The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 15

Clinton Payne NATURE STRIP ($2.80) – There’s no horse in the world that can match it with him when he’s on song over 1200m at Randwick.

James Lamb

NATURE STRIP ($2.80) – He’s short, but it’s very hard to tip against the world’s best sprinter. He’s showing no signs of slowing down. Oracle

MAZU ($8) – This bloke is a real racehorse who loves to win. He needs to go a new level to match Nature Strip, but he’s ready to be crowned Australia’s new sprint king.

Ray Thomas

NATURE STRIP ($2.80) – He confirmed his rating as the world’s best sprinter with his rampaging win in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

Tony Brassel

NATURE STRIP ($2.80) – He looks as good as last year after his spectacular Royal Ascot raid.

Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield on October 15

Clinton Payne

SUREFIRE ($15) – This imported stayer is the real deal and when he gets to 2400m and beyond on good tracks, he’ll show what he’s capable of. James Lamb

DUAIS ($8) – There aren’t many gun 2400m horses going around in Australia. Duais’ Tancred Stakes romp stands out from the crowd. Oracle

ALEGRON ($26) – He was second in the Victoria Derby, third in the Australian Derby and horribly unlucky in the SA Derby so the 2400m is right in his wheelhouse.

Ray Thomas SUREFIRE ($15) – Surefire is blessed with a very good burst of acceleration for a stayer and has only 50.5kg for the Caulfield Cup.

Tony Brassel SUREFIRE ($15) – It was a terrific indicator when he sprinted up to win 1400m fresh. Caught in the zombie zone when bias rendered him noncompetitive at Randwick second-up. Reckon his best is yet to come.
