Harry feared he only had a short shelf life

-

LONDON: Publicity surrounding “tell-all” and “wholly truthful” published accounts of life inside a royal household continue to plague Prince Harry.

Already in a panic to make last-minute changes that may not be realised to the approved final draft to his memoir in the wake of the Queen’s death and his father’s ascension to the throne, the Duke of Sussex is now facing fresh controversy over revelations in another new royal book about his wife Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex.

The new explosive claims have been published by Valentine Low from The Times in London in his new book, Courtiers: the Hidden Power Behind the Crown.

In an extract published from Low’s book it was claimed that staff called the 41-year-old Duchess of Sussex a “narcissistic sociopath”. The book also claims that royal aides referred to themselves as the “Sussex Survivors’ Club” and said Meghan wanted to be “rejected” by the institution.

On Saturday, another extract from Low’s book was revealed, claiming that the Duchess moaned about not getting paid for royal engagements while on a tour of Australia in 2018.

Bullying allegations against the Duchess of Sussex ahead of Megxit in 2020 were also made. She has denied the claims.

Another new book, The New Royals, also claimed the Queen was surprised that divorcee Meghan wore white when marrying Harry in 2018.

A family source said: “Perhaps it’s a generational thing, but she believes if you’ve been married before, you wear offwhite on your wedding day, which is what the Duchess of Cornwall did.”

But the newest claims from Low’s book include that Prince Harry feared he would “become irrelevant” when his nephew, Prince George, turned 18.

In an extract published from Low’s book, he states the Duke of Sussex had a “long-held fear” about being irrelevant one day and compared himself to Prince Andrew who does not have a job or “direction” any more.

“He had this thing that he had a shelf life,” the book states.

“He would say, ‘I have this time to make this impact. Because I can.’ Until George turns 18, was the way he was thinking about it. ‘Then I will be the also-ran’.”

“He was genuinely thinking of it as, ‘I have this platform now, for a limited amount of time. I want to move forward’.”
