CRIKEY, DISTILLERY FINDS RIGHT MIX WITH MILO SPIRIT

- CRYSTAL FOX

A GOLD Coast distillery is tapping into pure national nostalgia by releasing a limitededition alcoholic spirit which is infused with “chocolatey malty goodness” of the Aussie staple, Milo.

Miami’s Granddad Jack’s Craft Distillery released their new limited edition Milo spirit on January 20 and they say its one they are most proud of.

Head distiller and co-founder Luke Ridden said the signature Milo Spirit took two months to perfect but had been in the works for a lot longer.

“At Granddad Jacks, we are storytellers and spirit makers,” he said.

“Our Limited Release Nostalgia Project was born out of our share a drink, share a story ethos and turns our favourite childhood treats into boozy once-off releases.

“In Australia, Milo is one of those memories everyone can relate to and share their story.”

The $95 spirit is made with milo powder, malt extract, manuka honey, milo cereal and vanilla beans.

“If you grew up in Australia or had any good mate bring you back a true Aussie souvenir from their travels, you’ll know the chocolatey malty goodness we’re talking about and why we had to make this spirit happen,” Mr Ridden said.

They said it was an easy drinking spirit and could be enjoyed on ice, with tonic water or in their signature cocktail, The Milo Milkshake.

This milkshake consists of vanilla ice cream or a classic G & T with Long Rays Native Tonic and a dehydrated orange and burnt cinnamon stick to garnish.

Mr Ridden said the drink had been a fan favourite.

“People love it so much that we’ve only got a few bottles left,” he said.
