LES THROWS ON GLOVES FOR FIT-FEB

- ASHLEIGH JANSEN

FIVE-TIME world champion boxer Les Sherrington will help Gold Coasters get fighting fit during month-long wellness campaign FitFeb.

The “Lock N Load” legend will host free boxing sessions at Burleigh Heads and Southport on February 3 and Feb 7.

“Everyone who does boxing loves it, doesn’t matter who you are or what your age is – everyone loves to punch something and boxing allows you to get that frustration out and eases everything in your life,” Sherrington said.

“The best thing about boxing is that every single sport uses it for fitness – it’s the best fitness in the world.”

FitFeb, an initiative of Southport law firm IP Partnership, will also include pilates in the park, beach yoga, meditation, ice baths and compression boots with Recovery Lab, gym sessions with ACTV Strength Co, nutrition seminars and ’80s themed aerobics.

Principal Sam Rees said the initiative, aimed at business professionals, was conceived during Covid to combat stress.

“At that time there was so much uncertainty, so we put on some fitness and wellbeing activities on for our staff,” he said.

“We then realised this isn’t just great for us, but any business owner or professional who’s slogging it out working hard.

“FitFeb is just a small way to get … the local business community sweating together, exercising, prioritising our health for a month in an effort to create and facilitate both lasting fitness habits and also, hopefully, lasting friendships.

“It’s nice to have an event that brings people together that isn’t focused on booze – it creates genuine relationships with other professionals and it’s just a fun thing to put on for the community that we’re proud to host.”
