JACOB WANTS YOU TO PARTY-ON
A TWEED Heads man with autism who launched his own party hire business hopes to inspire other people with disabilities.
Jacob Lorenzo started Lorenzo’s Party Hire with $10,000 of his savings, which he then invested in jumping castles, a fairy floss machine, popcorn machine and a photo booth.
The 24-year-old started the venture to be able to support himself into the future.
“It’s pretty amazing that as a person with a disability, I’m able to run a business,” Mr Lorenzo said.
“People with disabilities can be independent and self-sufficient.”
His support worker Kylie Rooney said she suggested the idea after scrolling through Facebook Marketplace to hire items for her daughter-in-law’s baby shower.
“I think with his autism, it’s been hard for him to find a really good employer that is nurturing and understanding,” she said.
“His main motivation was to find something where he could be his own boss, make other people happy and have a career.”
Ms Rooney said she was more than happy to help Jacob make his business plan a reality.
“I met Jacob five years ago – him and I just clicked,” the Benowa woman said.
“His mum and I have just become such good friends since then and he is a big part of our family now.
“He is really entrepreneurial. Originally, we were looking at him doing a lawn mowing business.
“But he loves doing party decorations and making people happy.”
A website for the business is expected to launch soon.
Lorenzo’s Party Hire is currently taking bookings in advance for a variety of themed parties, including Great Gatsby or beach themed, as well as Valentine’s Day celebrations.
