MUDGEERABA GETS A SLICE OF THE NEW LENNY PIZZA ACTION
THE people who started popular Burleigh eatery Justin Lane are opening a new mouth-watering woodfired pizza restaurant, urging foodies to get a slice of the action.
Mudgeeraba will be home for the new restaurant Lenny Pizzeria and Bar from Thursday, March 16.
Owners Robert Morwood and Oliver Botha said they had been trying to start a pizza place like this for the past seven years.
Mr Morwood said their location in the heart of Mudgeeraba gives off “kick arse small town vibes”.
He said it reminded him of what they envisaged for Burleigh Head’s pizza bar, Justin Lane back when it opened in 2011. The Justin Lane brand is still going strong under its new owners, proving to be a popular staple for tourists and locals alike.
“What we are doing in Mudgeeraba reminds me a lot like what we did originally in Burleigh,” Mr Morwood said.
“It’s a beautiful old building full of character that has huge potential in the heart of town, with a massive al fresco dining space overlooking the village green.”
Lenny Pizzeria and Bar will have a wide selection of wood-fired pizza’s, house made ice cream, cocktails, tap beer, good music and a 3.5 tonne oven.
Mr Morwood said they have perfected their pizza’s by using a 72-hour slow fermented pizza dough, cooked at 400 degrees.
“There’s a fine line of deliciousness that lies just in between a floppy wet mess and burning the crap out of it,” he said.
“But when you hit that sweet spot right in the middle the dough just pops and it’s something really special.”
Mr Morwood said they hoped to change the “vibe” of Mudgeeraba’s Village Green in the afternoons.
“The amazing locals have all come down from the hills to support us and have been offering their gardens, eggs, timber, flooring, gardening and even helping with building.
“The sense of community out here is really something else and it’s blown us away”.
