Chandler chasing another double
Lyle Chandler is striving for his second ‘double’ in the space of nine days when last start winner Innervoice and the Kia Ora-bred blue-blood Daksha travel down from Scone to Newcastle on Tuesday.
The trainer’s May 21 brace at Muswellbrook typifies the depth and quality of horse headed Chandler’s way partly in recognition of his expert handling of the giant-killer, Banju.
Chandler could easily be in Sydney again before too long with either of his Muswellbrook winners, Kia Ora’s own Mazita and/or Rapbidash who dazzled with her four length debut win.
As for Tuesday, Chandler’s pair is led by his May 15 Tamworth winner, Innervoice, who has ostensibly out-grown country racing.
The daughter of Poet’s Voice makes NSW provincial ‘debut’ in Tuesday’s ANZ Bloodstock News Handicap (1250m) with Amy McLucas on board.
‘’We are stepping up in grade and getting some weight relief and fingers crossed that will do the job,’’ Chandler said.
‘’Amy’s taken a few kilos off and she goes on any going as well.
“So she will handle the Soft and a big track like Newcastle should suit her.
‘’She is just a very happy mare in the stable as well so I am sure she will give a very good honest run again.’’
Chandler is sweating on a few scratchings to ensure the blue-blood grey Daksha gets his chance to make a somewhat overdue return to top spot on the podium in the Events @ Newcastle Racecourse Handicap (1600m).
The son of Deep Field had plenty of admirers at Tamworth two weeks ago but could only manage to finish sixth in the field of 10 but with excuses.
‘’I thought he was almost a certainty at Tamworth the other day but Bucko (Grant Buckley) got off, and even though the track was rated a Soft 5, he said it was really a firm track and he said that he just didn’t like it,’’ Chandler pointed out.
‘’If we can get a win on the board on Tuesday, probably a Highway would be the next step for him.”
