United, Knights to lock horns

More than just three points are at stake in the biggest ever NPL Queensland Gold Coast derby when Gold Coast United take on Gold Coast Knights this Saturday at Coplick Family Sports Park.

With both sides occupying the top two spots in Queensland’s premier men’s football competitio­n, this year’s NPL derby couldn’t be more exciting as the Gold Coast heavyweigh­t sides battle for the Premiershi­p title.

In their previous encounter this season in the opening round, Gold Coast United defeated the Knights 3-0 to claim bragging rights, but since then the Carrara-based side have gone on a 10-match unbeaten streak.

Fans are encouraged to get down to Coplick Family Sports Park in Tallebudge­ra on Saturday to soak up the atmosphere.

Or they can watch the blockbuste­r clash live on Football Queensland’s Facebook channel or FQTV.

Gold Coast Knights’ quest for Kappa Women’s Super Cup glory continues this Thursday when they face Brisbane-based side Mitchelton FC in the Quarter Finals of the statewide women’s knockout competitio­n.

The FQPL 3 South Coast team are currently unbeaten in their local league competitio­n and have their eyes set on the bigger prize of claiming the prestigiou­s trophy.

But they will have to overcome an inform NPL Queensland team who will be their toughest test of the season so far.

If the Knights are to progress through to the Semi Final, they will come face-to-face with the reigning Champions and Queensland heavyweigh­t side Lions FC.

HOLIDAY CLINICS

Football Queensland holiday clinics are returning to the Gold Coast from Thursday, 29 June to Saturday, July 1 in Southport.

Delivered by experience­d FQ coaches, the clinics are a great way for boys and girls aged four to 14 to learn new skills, stay active and make new friends over the school holidays.

Spots are limited, so make the most of the early bird offer which ends Sunday, June 11.

Are you wanting to keep fit while playing football in a fun, social and relaxed environmen­t? Come down to the free Girls United come & try session this Friday at Goals Australia to get amongst the vibes.

Girls United social football is perfect to boost confidence, build fitness and make friends, with

women and girls of all skill and experience levels encouraged to attend, with sessions focusing on fun and enjoyment.
