Wagga mission a Breeze

- Adam Sherry

Jockey Danny Beasley has a strong book of rides on his home track at Wagga but perhaps none will provide more pleasure than Tropical Breeze if she wins.

Not that Beasley wouldn’t enjoy winning on any of his other mounts but he also happens to train Tropical Breeze for his good friend and former Sydney trainer, Mark Newnham.

“Mark bred her. She is out of a mare he owned and bred three horses out of but unfortunately she passed away last year,” said Beasley.

“I’m looking forward to finally getting Tropical Breeze to the races and hopefully all goes well.”

The three-year-old daughter of Denman makes her debut in the Super Maiden Handicap over 1000m after an impressive trial win at Wagga on December 12.

After being caught wide early, Beasley let her roll around the outside and she went to the line under a hold to win by a length-and-a-half.

“She is a nice filly who has done everything right,” he said.

“I targeted this race with her and it looks a pretty competitive affair but I am sure she is going to run well.”

Beasley only just gained his trainer/jockey licence recently and this filly will be just his second starter and hopefully give him his first win as a trainer.

“I don’t put too much pressure on myself but it would be nice the get the first one out of the way sooner rather than later,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Beasley has two rides for astute local trainer Tim Donnelly in Good Rain and Australian Harbour.

Beasley’s final two rides are on Ruban Bleu and Zouologist, who he hasn’t ridden before.
