Aussie travellers keen to lock in a post-Christmas flight bargain, get ready.

Rival airlines Qantas and Virgin Australia have both launched huge Boxing Day sales, taking in domestic and internatio­nal travel, with fares starting as low as $49.

The national carrier is offering discounted fares on almost every domestic route during a range of travel periods in the second half of 2024.

A one-way fare from Launceston to Melbourne costs just $109, while a Melbourne to Sydney flight will set passengers back jut $135.

Melburnian­s seeking the sun can grab a bargain flight to the Gold Coast for $145 while Perth to Sydney tickets have been slashed to $309.

Customers still holding a Qantas Covid credit can use their credit up until December 31, 2023.

Virgin Australia has also dropped a huge Boxing Day sale, offering more than 500,000 fares to domestic destinatio­ns as well as internatio­nal hotspots such as Bali, Samoa, Tokyo and Fiji.

The four-day sale covers select flights between January 10, 2024 and November 7, 2024.

Sydneyside­rs who fancy a slice of Byron Bay can nab a $49 flight to Ballina, while for those fancying a taste of Tassie, a flight to Hobart will cost just $85 from Sydney or $125 from Brisbane.

Adelaide to Darwin will set passengers back just $169 while Sydneyside­rs tempted to take a break on the Gold Coast will pay just $79.

Virgin Australia is also offering cut-price fares on internatio­nal routes including Brisbane to Samoa for $619.
