Pacific Fair shopping centre still charging full price for parking when thousands of people were staying there all day. Because of this disasterand trying to cool down, spending a lot of money on food – as we did – having a breakfast and lunch there. And extra $30 for parking.

I’m sure management is proud of this – greed is good.

Maybe if everyone took their face out of Facebook then they may actually take notice of what’s going on around them. Kev, Helensvale

Anyone who thinks Tony doesn’t care about the GC hasn’t seen him on the news lately. He doesn’t look like he’s slept since Christmas Day coordinating the clean-up through council, state, federal governments, SES. Johnbrew

Most overly dramatic and overused words since 2019 would have to be “unprecedented “and “apocalyptic”. Can people please refrain from such histrionics. Ken Newman, Peeramon

Authorities spy on anyone they want, gathering data on all of us, our pics are gleaned from passport pics, licence pics, mug shots and facial recognition. Privacy is an illusion.

Why all the confected drama over our hottest December day in four years on Friday. Yes folks, four years ago it was actually hotter, but no climate change whining at that time. Just a nod to Mother Nature and her variable weather patterns.

Shark attacks being blamed on climate change shows how desperate and devious the CC hysterics are to hoodwink the gullible. Their mauling of the truth and commonsense is more factual.

When Brisbane and the Northern Rivers flooded the mud army was activated and organised. Lists of those people came from the Gold Coast.

What has happened with organising help for locals after the massive storm? There is the dangerous situation of downed power lines and heavy trees.

But there are plenty of people who could be mobilised to help clean up once the power is made safe. The council have this expensive disaster management centre and can’t organise this to mobilise help? GN

Call the army to clean up the mess? What about the million on the dole doing nothing? Why the army? Why not the pensioners who are fit and healthy? Dole and pensioners all sucking on the same government teat.

The letter by Dave Gilmore about the decline of Southport missed one major white elephant in the room. The tram through Southport turned a streetscape into a railway yard. No access. No appeal and more examples of council sacrificing existing amenities with bad planning and execution to allow more high rises and density at all cost. They call it the CBD. Critically Badly Designed. GN

I discovered that we have a Minister for Disaster Recovery called Nikki Boyd who told us all yes we’ve had storms and the two head nodders behind agreed. This made me think when will we see the minister for treaty and how many head nodders

does he/she employ. Ron S

Tom Tate and the storm. All talk and all too late.

Only the federal government can call in the army. Remember Queensland voted ‘no’. Barney

How many people living in your house?” asked the butcher. “Myself and five mates”, I replied and received enough free meat for several days which would keep in our large Esky. The government response after Cyclone Tracy was amazing. Women and children were evacuated by plane, army teams moved around replacing roofs on homes, electricity generators were loaned out, water was available from hydrants at the main pipeline into town. Generous grants of money for underinsured home contents, government loans for rebuilding and airfares for R and R were available. In return we pitched in cleaning up debris from the hospital and government buildings and neighbours’ homes.

Russians outraged at an “almost naked” rave at a Moscow nightclub should instead direct their rage at their leader, Vladimir Putin, for his invasion of Ukraine and treatment of political opponents. Queensland is the land clearing capital of Australia. Councils around the state grant permits allowing developers, farmers and graziers to clear massive areas of land. But try getting approval to remove a large tree or trees that could fall on your home. Good luck with that and be prepared to open your wallet and give the moths a fly for the application fee.

What do we pay the army for? More relevant, what do we pay politicians for? Surely, they should be out there rendering assistance in the clean-up? Wayno

There is often an expectation that a person replacing an incumbent will be the same. Well Dave Warner has made that a whole lot easier for everyone then hasn’t he?

There are a myriad of low grade, cheating, divisive cricket aspirants that would never win a sportsmanship award.

Enjoy your retirement as a sandpaper ambassador for Bunnings.

Good on ya Tom. How about you stick to your day job instead of having a go at the weather bureau and then frightening everyone from coming to the coast on Saturday.

The severe warning got cancelled. Businesses will be really happy with you.

Now who has egg on their face?
