We’re happy to pitch in & help people clean up their property but at this stage some roads are still a mess with power lines & trees & were told to stay away. Hopefully now Miles is back from his holiday & has called for help from the ADF work might get done.

Makes you wonder if the delay in help to GC residents is political. We are a mainly liberal area & also Tommy has put himself offside with a lot of people.

Even when there are no natural disasters affecting banana production there are unexplaine­d movements in the price of the fruit like the ones in fuel prices. For no real reason other than because retailers can, prices go up 25% from $2.99 to $4 and more than back. This unsettling trend seems to be just one more retail ruse consumers face in their struggle to make ends meet.

There needs to be changes in the criminal justice system including parole boards to ensure sentences and release of convicted criminals on parole are more reflective of community sentiments. A royal commission into the system is needed, if that is possible, where both participan­ts in the current regime and those outside it can put their cases to a commission­er. At present the system seems to be too heavily weighted against victims of crime who have to face life sentences.

People affected by natural disasters deserve prompt, generous, meaningful, support from federal, state and local government­s and their insurers. The latter have made record profits in recent years, doubling them profits in 2023 despite the number of natural disasters in Australia. Their response has been to make hefty rises in premiums when they should, instead, be making hefty changes to claim response times.
