‘KIDS PULLED KNIVES ON ME AND MY POOCH’

‘It’s happening everywhere’: My shocking alleged ordeal walking dog

- Charlton Hart

A woman and her dog out on a walk have allegedly been threatened by juveniles armed with surgical scalpels during a robbery on the Gold Coast.

Kellie Hodge and her King Charles cross breed called Bear left their Pimpama home for a short walk around the block just after 11pm on Saturday when she claims they were stalked by three youths.

“As I’ve walked out I’ve heard one of them say old lady and keys. There was a white Yaris parked out the front and they must have thought my house keys around my neck belonged to the car,” Mrs Hodge said.

“I didn’t even feel scared. It wasn’t until I turned round the corner that I thought ‘Oh they must be going for a walk as well’ because they were right behind me.”

As the 53-year-old and her dog continued past the front of their unit block on Bedford Rd, she said the youths followed closely.

When she went to walk back into her complex after the short stroll, that’s when she was targeted.

“One of them said ‘Miss can I pat your dog?’ As soon as he knelt to pat him he pulled the scalpel out and put it to my dog’s throat and threatened him.

“Then the other boy came up pointing the scalpel at me. He said ‘Give me ya f--king keys’ and then yanked them from around my neck.”

The teens ran off towards the park several hundred metres down the road.

Mrs Hodge and Bear were able to make it to a neighbour’s place to raise the alarm and call police.

At least 10 police cars as well as the dog squad and Polair arrived in Pimpama within minutes of the alleged robbery.

“I see this stuff on the news all the time but it’s not until it happens to you that you realise, yeah right this is real and it’s happening everywhere” Mrs Hodge said.

Mrs Hodge and Bear weren’t physically injured during the alleged robbery but it has left them rattled.

“What would have happened to him (Bear) if I had resisted? I just did not expect that, they’re kids.”

Police arrested three teenagers close to the scene.

Police have charged a 12year-old Tanah Merah boy, a 13-year-old Willow Vale boy, and a 15-year-old Pimpama girl with robbery while armed and in company. The trio have been remanded in custody to face Southport Children’s Court. Police say they found knives on both of the boys.

Police are appealing for CCTV and dashcam footage as part of their ongoing investigation.
