Teens face charges for joy ride

Three armed teenagers have been charged following a joy ride in an allegedly stolen Mazda on the Gold Coast on Tuesday afternoon.

Police will allege a grey Mazda CX-8 was spotted by police at Eagleby about 2.20pm, with Polair then tracking the car as it travelled south along the Pacific Motorway towards the Coast.

The vehicle exited the highway at the Elysium Rd offramp near Carrara before reentering and travelling northbound towards Brisbane.

Police further allege that the occupants of the Mazda attempted to do a U-turn at an emergency site near Yatala, driving into a culvert and becoming stuck.

The Mazda was allegedly stolen from a residence in Coombabah on January 8 and was bearing number plates from a Nissan Qashqai in Pimpama.

A 14-year-old Eagleby boy was charged with two counts of receiving tainted property and one count each of enter dwelling and commit, possession of a knife in a public place, possess utensils, unlawful possession of weapons category A, B or M (flick knife) and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 13-year-old Cleveland boy was charged with four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts of enter dwelling and commit, receiving tainted property, and one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle – publish on social media, intent to commit indictable offence, stealing, using a false number plate, unlicensed driving, unlawful possession of a weapon, possess drug utensil, possession of a knife in a public place.

They are both due before Brisbane Children’s Court on January 10.

A 13-year-old Eagleby boy was charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possession of a knife in a public place.

He is due before Beenleigh Children’s Court on January 15.
