WASHINGTON: Allies of Donald Trump have the knives out for Taylor Swift, fuelled by increasingly bizarre conspiracy theories that the singer is part of an elaborate plot to endorse President Joe Biden, as she did before the 2020 election.
The nether reaches of Trumpworld have become obsessed with suspicions that the Super Bowl, the climax of the American football season on Sunday week, has been rigged to ensure Swift’s boyfriend is on the winning team to promote the left-leaning singer and Mr Biden even more.
Swift, 34, is expected to make a dash from a concert in Tokyo the day before the big game in Las Vegas to see Travis Kelce in action for the Kansas City Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers.
A win would be followed by Kelce and the team receiving the customary invitation to the White House.
In the frenzied minds of some right-wing conspiracy theorists the whole SwiftKelce romance, which has gripped US media for weeks, is a sham and part of a “deep state” plot to undermine Mr Trump.
The former president has done little to discourage the swirl of outlandish theories that surround his political rise, even concluding his rally speeches with the theme music for QAnon, a baseless belief system that celebrates him as a messiah who will rid America of a controlling cabal of pedophiles.

Trump-supporting far-right social media figure with more than 800,000 followers on Twitter/X.
Vivek Ramaswamy, a failed Republican presidential candidate now backing Mr Trump’s bid for a second term, posted: “I wonder who’s going to win the Super Bowl next month.
“And I wonder if there’s a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple.
“Just some wild speculation over here, let’s see how it ages over the next 8 months.”
Mike Crispi, a pro-Trump broadcast personality, stated: “EVERYONE knows Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce is fake and the Super Bowl is rigged.
“You’re a whacko at this point if you DON’T believe it.”
Crispi asserted that Swift will appear on stage at the Super Bowl halftime show – often watched by more viewers than the sporting action – and endorse Mr Biden.
Jesse Watters, a Fox News host, told viewers: “Have you ever wondered why or how she (Swift) blew up like this?
“Well, around four years ago, the Pentagon psychological operations unit floated turning Taylor Swift into an asset during a NATO meeting.”
Megyn Kelly, an internet broadcaster, told her show: “If she’s (Taylor Swift) smart, she will stay non-political, which is better for her.
She will not be the most popular person in America if she continues to antagonise half the country that votes Republican, but whatever.”
