Monk to host for tele, not tenants

- Viva Hyde

Aussie TV presenter Sophie Monk has sold a riverfront investment property in the Gold Coast suburb where she attended primary school.

The deal comes one month after the Love Island Australia host listed the fivebedroom, three-bathroom Helensvale home with price hopes of $1.75m.

While the sale price was not disclosed, property records show the 4018sq m parcel in the tightly held Riverdowns Estate changed hands a week ago, pending settlement.

Monk, 44, purchased the renovated property for $1.1m in 2016 after returning from a decade-long stint in Los Angeles. The house was rented for $1200 a week in 2021 and put up for sale in December once the tenants had vacated.

Marketing agents Steve and James Weir, of Harcourts Coastal, described the property as a “family classic home of enviable tranquillity, privacy and position”.

“This home has generous proportions but has scope for your own touch,” the Weir brothers said in the listing on realestate.com.au.

The property has direct ocean access with a boat ramp, jetty and storage areas, as well as a pool and outdoor entertaining areas.

Inside is airconditioned, with spacious living areas, a stylish kitchen and staircase.

Monk was born in the UK but lived on the Gold Coast from age 2, attending Helensvale Primary School.

She first rose to stardom as a member of Aussie girl band Bardot and has since enjoyed a prominent career both in Australia and the US.

Monk was the winner of Celebrity Apprentice Australia in 2015 and starred on the third season of The Bachelorette.

Hosting gigs include Beauty and the Geek and Love Island Australia in 2023.

Monk’s other property buys include a three-bedroom home in Matcham on the NSW Central Coast, purchased for $2.3m in 2020.
