Now the rental’s pinched
Thieves return for vehicle
A rental car has been stolen from a Currumbin Waters house, just nine days after the homeowner lost his Land Rover and a boat in another robbery.
The car and boat were stolen after a break-in at the house at about 8pm on Australia Day.
The boat was found abandoned in a nearby industrial estate the following day, while police said the car had since also been found.
However, on Monday the homeowner reported that thieves armed with an axe again struck at the same address.
“Nine days after stealing my car they have returned and now stolen the rental car,” he said in comments on social media.
“Three men with their faces covered and one of them had an axe in their hands.”
Police said “multiple people” had broken into the house.
“Police are investigating following a reported break in at (the) address around 1am on Monday morning,” a spokesman said.
“Initial information indicates multiple people entered the home and stole property including keys.
“Investigations are continuing, anyone with information or further vision is urged to contact police.”
The robbery was one of a number of car thefts on the Gold Coast over the weekend, including a frightening home invasion in Helensvale when youths armed with knives stole two vehicles.
The gang later boasted about their crimes on social media, something Chief Superintendent Craig Hanlon said was a concern to police
“It’s frustrating. That’s why the government brought in legislation recently to add that as an offence,” he said.
“What we don’t want to see is copycat offending and that has been occurring, particularly with juveniles and stolen cars.
“Copycatting, competing with each other, driving faster, driving more recklessly. And we don’t want that to happen.
“Driving at high speeds is a significant risk, let alone someone who doesn’t have a licence and is too young to have a licence.
“Our aim is to hunt these people down, put them before the courts and hold them to account, and we will do that.”
