Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s big night at Super Bowl

- Kathy McCabe

From chugging a beer to biting her nails when the going got tough, Taylor Swift’s footy fandom was in the frame as her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his team claimed back-to-back Super Bowl wins.

And in a nod to her upcoming Eras Tour which starts in Melbourne this Friday, Swift wore a black crochet crop top by top Aussie-American designer Dion Lee, which retails for $650.

The official Super Bowl broadcaster didn’t cut to the Swift suite quite as much as fans may have hoped despite her mad dash from Tokyo, but the famous football WAG had her every reaction beamed to the world via the telecast and social media.

Swift arrived at the game with a squad of besties including actor Blake Lively, rapper Ice Spice and stylist Ashley Avignone as well as her mother Andrea.

From the second they took their place in a corporate box, Swift’s excitement and tension was tracked by the cameras.

Vision of her and Avignone chugging their drinks went viral within seconds as did scenes of the star hugging her friends when the Chiefs scored or Kelce was involved in the play.

As the 49ers led the game with mere seconds to go, Swift was sighted looking stressed as she bit her nails.

A parade of superstars rotated through the box including her girl pals Lana Del Rey and Keleigh Sperry, with Paul McCartney dropping in during halftime.

Other celebrities spotted at the match included actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Paul Rudd and Mark Wahlberg while model Kendall Jenner sat next to her pals the Biebers. Justin Bieber was rumoured to make a cameo with his friend Usher during halftime but remained a spectator.

But there was one famous family who did steal a considerable amount of the spotlight from Swift and that was the Carters.

Music industry powerbroker and Super Bowl halftime producer Jay-Z aka Shawn Carter was sighted with daughters Blue Ivy and Rumi mingling on the field ahead of the game. And then his wife Beyonce broke the internet by using her halftime Verizon commercial to announce a new album.

Beyonce just trumped Taylor Swift’s Grammys hijack to announce her new record by revealing Renaissance Act II is coming in March, about three weeks before The Tortured Poet’s Department on April 19.

It’s a spectacular global flex, seeing there are expected to be more than 100 million Americans watching the match – and tens of millions more worldwide – compared to the 17 million in the US who tuned into the Grammys.

During the halftime break, Beyonce starred in a Verizon commercial about breaking the internet which ended with her saying “drop the new music.”

A teaser then landed on her Instagram ending with a scene of her on a giant billboard in the desert with a snippet of a song called Texas! Hold ‘Em playing.

Within minutes of confirming the incoming record, Beyonce dropped her first two singles – Texas Hold ‘Em and 16 Carriages – via streaming platforms.

Before Kelce and Swift were united on the field after the presentation, the footballer proved why he should leave the singing to his pop queen, belting out a screechy Viva Las Vegas from the podium.

While Kelce has a lot of celebrating with his teammates scheduled over the next couple of days, fans expect he will join her at some stage during her Australian tour.
