Surf’s up as Pat nabs $1.6m home on Coast

- Viva Hyde

Under-fire NRL star Pat Carrigan has secured a retro-style home in one of the Gold Coast’s most popular beachside markets for $1.6 million.

The Brisbane Broncos forward nabbed the three-bedroom Burleigh Waters pad from among four other interested buyers who had also made offers for the 1975-built property.

Carrigan, a Queensland Origin star touted as a future Broncos captain, bought a post-war home in Brisbane in 2019 but has already moved to the Glitter Strip, with time outside training spent catching waves at Nobby Beach.

News of his move comes as he faces the fallout of an embarrassing late-night altercation with Broncos skipper Adam Reynolds.

The pair this week apologised for the incident and are keen to put it behind them ahead of the 2024 NRL season.

The Burleigh Waters house was marketed by Juliana Gomes, of Passos Agency, and originally listed at offers above $1.65m. Ms Gomes said Carrigan had brought his family to see the home on a fully fenced 613sq m lot with a large backyard and veggie gardens.

“The family love Burleigh, they always come here on the weekends, and I feel this home has a unique character to it which was appealing,” Ms Gomes said.

“The vendor is a mad Broncos fan and Pat has organised a jersey and autograph for him.”

The house has been renovated with reference to classic mid-century style with a feature breeze block wall, and has a large pool which once served as a local swim school.

Property features include a covered entertaining patio with retro floor tiles, generous master bedroom with renovated ensuite, timber-look floorboards and plantation shutters through living areas, and a rear lounge which could be used as a gym. Records show the home last changed hands for $605,000 in 2014.

It’s a step up for property ladder for Carrigan, who last year signed a four-year extension with the Broncos estimated to be worth at least $800,000 per season.

In 2019, he bought a threebedroom house on a 607sq m block for $640,000 in Holland Park West.

PropTrack data shows the median house price in Burleigh Waters is $1.24m, up 6.6 per cent over the past year.
