Hamptons makeover

Epic renovation rewarded with sale in five days as family moves on

-

A showstopper Hamptons-inspired abode in a quiet Gold Coast suburb has hit the mark with buyers, drawing in almost 50 house hunters and a sale within five days.

The four-bedroom stunner on Burrendong Rd, Coombabah went under contract at $1.37m through Shannon Smith, principal of Smith & Co Realty, Paradise Point.

“This extraordinary sale not only reflects the owners’ exquisite attention to detail but also the dynamic growth of Coombabah,” Mr Smith said.

“We’re witnessing a rebound in buyer confidence, fuelled by speculation of a potential rate drop by the RBA and the media, which has energised the market.”

Vendors Natalie and Rob Carlson were behind the epic renovation, which included stripping the house back to its frame and extending it.

It was the fifth home renovation the couple had undergone since moving to the Gold Coast in 2013.

The pair, who have three children – Hunter, 8, Zara, 7, and Bobby, six months — bought the Coombabah property in 2018, eager to settle as their family expanded.

“We wanted to live and enjoy a house and we drove past this one and just loved the area,” Mrs Carlton said.

“We lived in it for a year to get a feel for the house and we had all of these ideas for the property.”

They enlisted Bianca Gemmill of BCG Building Design – who also designed popular Gold Coast homes Bajo El Sol and Ohana Beach House – to help them bring their vision to life.

“We wanted a Hamptons home,” Mrs Carlton said.

“We also wanted a lightfilled and breezy house with big open spaces.”

The end result is a nod to the US’s affluent Long Island property scene, and includes timber, stone, and sage finishes as well as statement wallpaper, plantation shutters and stacker doors.

The kitchen, dining and lounge area opens to the 14m alfresco space with a rendered fireplace that overlooks the pool and timber deck.

“The house has got a beautiful flow to it,” Mrs Carlton said. The most recent addition was the backyard pool which has been a game-changer for the family.

“The kids kick the ball in the front yard so we didn’t want to lose that space so we put the pool in the backyard,” she said.

“We can see them when we’re cooking and basically from every aspect of the house.”

As well as the pool and entertaining area, another family favourite is the fireplace.

“People said we were crazy putting a fireplace in but it’s not for the heat, it’s for the ambience it creates,” she said.

“All year round we love it. The kids swim in the pool and then jump out and sit by the fire.”

The family have decided to sell so they can build.

“We hope the next people who buy it love it as much as we have,” she said.

PropTrack data reveals a typical house in Coombabah costs $801,663, up 7.63 per cent over 12 months.
