Tornado-ravaged golf attraction to reopen
One of the Gold Coast’s most popular attractions has finally announced when it will reopen after being badly damaged in the tornado that whipped through northern suburbs on Christmas night.
Topgolf in Oxenford was forced to close after the freak storm destroyed giant nets that surround the facility.
However, after the installation of new nets, which had to be flown in from the US, owner Village Roadshow Theme Parks has announced the venue is just days away from reopening its doors.
“We are incredibly excited to announce Topgolf will reopen at 11.30am next Friday February 23, and we can’t wait to welcome guests back to the venue,” Village Roadshow Theme Parks COO, Bikash Randhawa, told the Bulletin.
“I am immensely proud of our passionate and dedicated teams who have worked tirelessly since the Christmas storms in their clean-up efforts to remove debris from the outfield and fix critical infrastructures, including a full net replacement, in our efforts to make the venue safe for our guests to re-enter.
“One of the largest components of the reopening plans was the delivery and installation of the custom-made exterior netting which were airfreighted in from Northern America.”
In addition to replacing its 24 sections of netting – which span more than 1000 lineal metres – Topgolf has repainted 25 support poles which stand at more than 50m each and conducted inspections and repairs on more than 2.5km of cabling.
Since opening in June 2018, Topgolf has proven to be one of the most popular attractions on the Gold Coast, regularly booking out and attracting celebrities including Hugh Jackman and Vanilla Ice.
