Cornes tees off on Eagles dress-up
Former Port Adelaide player Kane Cornes has taken aim at West Coast Eagles players for wearing flamboyant costumes to their intra-club match.
The Eagles hit the track for their final intra-club of the summer on Saturday.
And, as they did last year, arrived in costumes ahead of the hitout.
Some of the outfits included Liam Duggan in overalls, while Elijah Hewett and Reuben Ginbey dressed up as Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift respectively.
Cornes was left unimpressed by the spectacle as the Eagles look to turn the tide on two horror seasons.
“I’m completely going to be on an island with this and I’m happy to be on an island on my own,” Cornes acknowledged on SEN Breakfast.
“Pull up your socks West Coast Eagles, who turned up to their internal trial all wearing the most ridiculous outfits you have ever seen.
“It’s a take off of the NBA, it’s a bit of fun, I get it.
“But there were players with overalls with nothing on underneath, there was players dressed as superheroes, there was suits with beanies, there were Hawaiian shirts.
“It was ridiculous.” Adding to the frustration for Cornes was the recent onfield struggles of the Eagles, which has seen the team languishing near the bottom of the AFL ladder for two consecutive seasons.
“For a club that has won five games in the last two years, I want a bit more professionalism and an attitude that speaks to that,” he said.
“It’s not Mad Monday, it’s the first day of your season and we don’t need you dressing up like superheroes and being photographed and plastered all over social media.
“Lets get serious.”
