RABBITOHS ON THE HIGHWAY TO TRELL

- David Riccio Rating: 7.5/10 Rating: 8.5/10 Rating: 8/10

There’s a sense of new beginnings at the Rabbitohs following the trainwreck that was the end of the 2023 season. Honesty sessions, truth meetings and moving forward with a belief that this is a premiershipwinning side is bubbling from within the club. Key to all this, will be the health of Indigenous star Latrell Mitchell and Cody Walker. Without doubt the most influential duo must play a minimum of 22 games each for this slick Rabbitohs side to realise their full potential this year.

BACKS

So much to like when fit and healthy. Mitchell at the back is a beast. The arrival of former Test star Jack Wighton into the centres provides a new point of attack for the Rabbitohs. Wighton has all the makings for buy of the season. If there is one area of concern, it’s the loss of Campbell

Graham (sternum) until mid-season. The Bunnies have quality depth, but Graham is a massive hole to fill.

SPINE

As a combination the Bunnies spine of Mitchell, Walker, hooker Damien Cook and halfback Lachlan Ilias have every right to believe they can lead the Rabbitohs to a premiership. What last season showed was that the Bunnies need all four on the field to be successful. Ilias’ season will be must-see TV in 2024. A workaholic, Ilias is determined to break free from the rising-star status and prove he’s one of the top halfbacks in the competition this season and beyond.

FORWARDS

Any side that boasts Cameron Murray, Keaon Koloamatangi, Jai Arrow, Tom Burgess and Tevita Tatola in its pack will be hard to stop. That’s without mentioning two bluechip power forwards in Tallis Duncan and Davvy Moale. The acquisition of Sean Keppie from Manly is a shrewd buy, adding size and presence in the South Sydney pack.
