Gunners humiliate hapless strugglers

-

Arsenal entered the record books as a 6-0 demolition of Sheffield United on Tuesday morning kept the Gunners on Liverpool’s and Manchester City’s tails in the Premier League title race.

Martin Odegaard, Jayden Bogle’s own goal, Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Declan Rice put the visitors 5-0 up at halftime before Ben White rounded off the scoring.

Mikel Arteta’s men are the first side to win three consecutive away games in the English top flight by five or more goals.

“When we had the ball, we were in a good mood today,” Arsenal captain Odegaard said. “Created a lot, scored the goals early on – a nice performance.”

By contrast, Sheffield United also set a new record by becoming the first English top-flight side to concede five or more goals in three straight home matches.

“It’s a painful season and the boys are a damaged group of players,” Blades boss Chris Wilder said.

“They were in a different league, a different planet to us. We couldn’t lay a glove on them.”

Philadelphia Eagles centre Jason Kelce has retired after 13 years in the NFL.

The six-time NFL All-Pro offensive lineman played for the Eagles from 2011 through 2023 after being taken in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL draft.

“Stepping on the field was the most alive I had ever felt,” said Kelce, whose younger brother, Travis, a Super Bowl winner with the Kansas City Chiefs this year, is the boyfriend of singer Taylor Swift.

“It was a visceral feeling with football, unlike any other sport. The hairs on my arms would stand up. I could hit somebody, run around like a crazed lunatic, and then get told ‘Good job’. I love football.”

Kelce helped the Eagles win the 2018 Super Bowl, defeating the New England Patriots.

Wiping away tears, the 36year-old said he was uncertain what the future held, although he is expected to receive offers for TV commentary deals.

“It took a lot of hard work and determination getting here,” Kelce said.

“I don’t know what’s next, but I look forward to the new challenges and opportunities that await.”
