Model puts his best foot forward

Kieran Knapper says being chosen to model in one of the biggest Queensland fashion festivals was like a dream come true.

The Gold Coast Fashion project booked more than 50 models across the state for this year’s Queensland Arts & Fashion Festival.

Mr Knapper, who has only been in the fashion industry two years, was elated after he found out late last month he had been chosen as one of the models for the festival after an unsuccessful attempt last year.

The Gold Coast-based model said this year’s Queensland Arts & Fashion festival was a “step forward in the right direction”. “I can’t wait to help contribute to what will be a great few days of the show,” he said.

Mr Knapper began modelling in 2022 and last year was chosen to compete in Top Model Australia in Melbourne.

“Melbourne gave me the opportunity to see what it was like to do a serious runway with choreography, presenters and stylists.

“It was a great experience being able to meet new people from all over Australia pursuing the same path,” he said.

Mr Knapper said he was volunteering in his spare time to help out as a model and stage hand in different fashion shows in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

“Long term I would love to make a career and living from modelling, but right now any opportunity I get is a step in the right direction,” he said.

Queensland Arts & Fashion Festival CFO Simone Hickey said the Gold Coast had some of the “best models in the world”.

The Queensland Arts & Fashion festival will hold four runways – on May 4, May 11, June 8 and June 29 at Broadbeach Cultural Centre.
