Small in number but big on belief

- Adam Sherry

Victorian trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr are hoping Eclipsion can be the start of a big week with a small team of horses they have based in Sydney at the moment.

The co-trainers are chasing a big prize with Eclipsion in the $100,000 Turf Culture Tribeca Fungicide Handicap (1600m) at Wyong on Wednesday while they have runners in three stakes races at Rosehill on Saturday.

Eclipsion led and was narrowly beaten in his Sydney debut by Pasima at Warwick Farm two weeks ago but with the experience under his belt, can go one better with James McDonald sticking with the gelding.

“Given the fantastic prizemoney of these Super Maidens, we were keen to find another one,” Kent Jnr said.

“He did a bit of work to get to the front but then controlled it.

“While he was narrowly beaten, James was effusive of the run and the horse.

“He really likes him with a long-term view. While Wyong is a tightish track, we feel he can make use of barrier 1 and be up there in the first three.

“We have a small number of horses based at Rosehill at the moment and his work on Saturday morning was very good.

“If James can find a nice rhythm and roll along from the 600m, that would be his best chance of winning.

“I know he is short but it’s no walkover. Autumnation is dying to win a maiden and Blacklist was a bit of a hidden run last start.”

Price and Kent Jnr are looking for lightly-raced four-yearold Amenable to run a bold race in the Group 1 George Ryder at Rosehill on Saturday and earn a place in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile.

The son of Lonhro pleased his trainers with his close second first-up behind Von Hauke in the Shaftsbury Avenue at Flemington a fortnight ago.
