Sandfire serves up top addition to dining scene

The owners of the Gold Coast’s newest beachfront tapas bar – suspended above a surf life saving club – say their recently released menu is proving a hit.

Sandfire had a soft opening in December after moving in above the North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club.

Sandfire marketing manager Tamara Johansen said the eatery officially launched its coastalinspired tapas menu last week.

The venue, which took two years to come to life, boasts a “gorgeous” beachfront view, live music, DJ sessions and a menu inspired by food from around the world.

“Our upstairs space was previously used for functions but we had a vision that it could be so much more,” Ms Johansen said.

She said the menu – which boasts Swedish prawn skagen and macadamia cutlets – had been “really well received” by locals.

“Our menu is influenced by our head chef’s extensive experience in Europe and around the world, so there are lots of unique dishes that our guests have never seen and have been excited to experience,” she said.

Ms Johansen said it was best to book ahead if you wanted a spot at their Friday and Saturday night live music gigs and Sunday afternoon sunset DJ sessions.

“Everyone who walks up our staircase has the same reaction and says, ‘Wow, we did not expect that’,” Ms Johansen said.

“The local crowd have been loving the new addition to the southern Gold Coast dining scene.

“Our new tapas menu has been the icing on the cake.”

The venue also holds Smilarita Sundays, inviting guests to build their own margaritas.

“Guests choose their base from our range of premium tequilas (which include) Olmeca, Fortalez, Herradura, Santanera and Mezcal,” Ms Johansen said.

“Then they select their rim (out of) sea salt, chilli salt, worm salt, sugar or coconut.

“Then pick a flavour: classic, spicy, tommy, spicy coconut, mango, watermelon or coconut.”
