First patients in hospital’s transfer unit
A new addition to Robina Hospital has welcomed its first patients.
The Robina Hospital transfer unit, opened last week, is the last phase of the public hospital’s $16.5m Robina emergency department expansion project designed to work alongside the hospital’s existing emergency department.
Health Minister Shannon Fentiman said it provided a specialised space patient flow.
“We know how important transfer units are for streamlining patient flow in and out of our busy hospitals,” she said.
The unit is designed as a space for final step before patients transition home or to a nursing facility.
Nurse unit manager Helena Anne Moore said it could also be used as an interim waiting area for patients awaiting bed allocation or an outpatient appointment. to
“streamline” “Its primary goal is to optimise bed availability in both the emergency department and the wards,” Ms Moore said.
“Throughout the planning process, our team was actively involved, ensuring the transfer unit was fit for purpose.”
First patient Rosemary Probst said the new space was “wonderful”.
“It’s so nice to be in the new room,” she said. “They’re just wonderful staff and it’s a pleasure to be with them all in this new space.”
Positioned at the hospital entrance, the unit will act as a drop off point for a patient shuttle bus. Ms Fentiman said the completed expansion joins four major Gold Coast Health projects.
They include the new Coomera Hospital, Gold Coast Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit, Tugun Satellite Hospital and expansions to Robina Hospital.
