Rebel: Women reached out over Baron Cohen claim
Rebel Wilson says “the truth will come out” and she has been contacted by other women since making claims of inappropriate behaviour against Hollywood star Sacha Baron Cohen.
The Aussie actor, 44, made the comments after claiming the release of her autobiography, Rebel Rising, had been delayed in Australia and Britain due to the threat of legal action by her The Brothers
Grimsby co-star Baron Cohen. “What’s been comforting is like, several women have now been in contact and it’s up to them whether they want to go public with their stories,” Wilson told The Sun.
“It is hard to say something against somebody who’s high profile, because they hit you with high-price lawyers and crisis PR people. It doesn’t feel great when all I’m doing is sharing my story in my memoir, which I’m very entitled to do. But I always think that the truth will come out, which is why it’s great to have the book out now so people don’t just read the headlines but can read the actual chapter.”
News Corp does not suggest the women Wilson claims came forward made similar allegations about Baron Cohen.
He vigorously denies Wilson’s allegations of inappropriate behaviour. A spokesman for Baron Cohen said: “While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of Grimsby.”
Wilson said not everyone was going to like what was written in an autobiography.
“When you write your truth, not everyone is going to like it,” the Bridesmaid star told The Sun. “And when someone is an a---hole I kind of expected that he would come out and fiercely deny it, which is so weird when you’ve been there, like you know, it’s happened.”
Baron Cohen and his wife, Australian actor Isla Fisher, have announced their divorce after 13 years of marriage in a recent Instagram post.
