Dreaming on

If anyone needed a reason to visit the GC in January, the champion horse story is one

-

THE legend of champion horse Winx is one that started on the Gold Coast at the Magic Millions sale at Bundall. Winx was one of the thousands of yearlings sold at the Bundall auction yard across from the Gold Coast Turf Club for what is now considered a measly $230,000 given her record after and entry into the history books as Australia’s greatest ever thoroughbred race horse.

Now that legend is set to continue with the foal of Winx sold for a whopping and record-setting $10 million.

No surprise that the owner and women or bought Winx all those years ago on the Gold Coast Debbie Kepitis - has remained an owner of Winx Junior.

Famed Sydney-based trainer Chris Waller will have what he calls the honour of training the champion horse’s offspring.

This surely is one of the great stories and embodiments of a dream this country has ever seen.

And it is fitting that this story has a rich and deep connection the the tourism capital which some also refer to as the small business capital of the country.

Such is its entrepreneurial spirit. The Gold Coast is the city of dreams - and dreamers. (It’s what Gerry Harvey once said when asked to sum up the Magic Millions - it’s about selling a dream). Yes, the Gold Coast is the magical place many Australians come to make memories on holiday.

It’s where people with a great idea or small business dreams and start-up courage seem to flock to or get inspired by.

It’s the place where you can buy a foal for $230,000 at a yearling sale and ride that dream all the way to tens of millions in prizemoney and more.

Winx is a great Australian story but also a great Glitter Strip story and one that helps bolster the magic of a city with - like the foal no doubt - unlimited potential.

There is a lot to like about the Gold Coast and celebrate it we must.

From its world-class stretch of beachfront, the chutzpah of its citizens to the exciting opportunities on the horizon as it continues to grow, and mature and build a more robust economy and city.

You can Winx to that.
