Kirra’s point of difference

A new luxury tower aims to put the southern suburbs on australia’s holiday radar

The creators of a new high-end holiday tower say it will be the best luxury offering on the southern Gold Coast when it opens on Friday.

Developed by KTQ Group – also behind celeb-magnet Elements of Byron – Kirra Point Holiday Apartments will welcome its first guests this week.

Development director Jeremy Holmes said the property, a hybrid of hotel and apartment suspended over one of Australia’s most famous surf breaks, had exceeded his expectations.

“Some of these apartments you can rent are worth $4 million, so we are talking really high end,” he said.

“It’s unlike anything else on the Gold Coast that we’ve seen before and we think it will make a good name for itself.”

Kirra Point Holiday Apartments are in the same development as Kirra Beach Hotel, which opened in November, and Dave Galvin’s Kirra Beach House, debuted in December.

A barista, barber and Kirra Beach Cellars are also in the precinct, while nearby Billy Chow and Siblings are among the new hospitality guard credited with reshaping the southern suburb.

“There’s a new feel (to Kirra),” Mr Holmes said.

“There’s a new demographic, a new energy that supports the old charm of the southern Gold Coast, but it’s held on to that pace, that slow rhythm.

“(Kirra has) great new developments, and lovely new restaurants and wellness spaces. It feels like it’s all come together.”

Mr Holmes said Kirra’s proximity to Gold Coast Airport was pivotal in putting it on the tourism radar of lucrative Sydney and Melbourne markets, repositioning the city’s south as a distinct holiday destination.

“We’re not Surfers, we’re not Broadbeach,” he said.

“The Gold Coast is a tale of two cities; we know south of Burleigh is very different to north of Burleigh.

“We see ourselves more akin to the Northern Rivers feel, the pace, the quality of food and the healthy lifestyle, so we will tap into that.”

The mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments boast wraparound balconies – capturing views over Kirra Beach and the south’s signature Norfolk Pines that roll to the distant Glitter Strip skyline – full kitchens with European appliances and Nespresso coffee machines, and full-sized laundries.

“This is top of the market … (the apartments) are large,” Mr Holmes said.

“This trend happened over the past two decades where apartments were getting smaller, particularly investment apartments,” Mr Holmes said.

“We’ve done the opposite – they are oversized and very suitable to live in, and we’ve put a lot of money into the furnishings so it presents as a hotel product.”

Hotel reception operates daily from 7am to 7pm, with a hire service for cots, highchairs, beach carts, umbrellas and bikes, and can arrange grocery deliveries, babysitters and access to electric vehicle charging ports.

Alongside an airconditioned gym kitted out with Technogym equipment is the property’s most photogenic feature: a north-facing resort pool that overlooks the development’s big blue backyard.

Rates start from $395 per night for a one-bedroom apartment.
