Nikita wants Tszyu boys to become blood brothers

- Brendan Bradford

Nikita Tszyu wants a bloody Australian super-welterweight title defence against Danilo Creati on April 24 and has slammed “ignorant” commentators who criticised the cornermen’s efforts on older brother Tim’s cut against Sebastian Fundora two weeks ago.

Brushing off any and all criticism, Nikita will use the exact same cornermen when he makes the first defence of his Australian title at the Hordern Pavilion on April 24.

He also challenged the elusive Creati to a firefight, and has called for longtime Tszyu rival Michael Zerafa to retire from the sport.

Nikita was ringside for Tim’s world title bloodbath in Las Vegas and said those criticising cutman Mark Gambin were uninformed.

“It’s just all ignorance, they don’t know what’s going on, so I tend not to look at what other people say,” Tszyu said.

“I consider a lot of people in this sport idiots, so there’s no use in listening to idiots talk.

“Even some of the apparent professionals saying couldn’t stop the cut. “Our team doctor, Dr Bill, said if it’s a cut through the vein like it was, there’s no way you could stop it in a minute. You need 15 minute’s worth of pressure to stop the bleeding.

“It’s like putting a bandaid they on a hose and expecting it to hold. It’s impossible and they did everything they could.

“The corner did their best. They’ll be in my corner. Nothing changes, we’re family.”

Nikita is adamant Tim won the fight, and was left in awe at what his older brother did.

“I was shocked with how much blood he lost,” he said. “I get dizzy after taking a little sample of blood for the doctor and Tim lost a litre of it and was still able to perform.

“It’s insane. That heart, it’s not something you can train, it’s something you’re born with.”

Having seen Tim’s effort, Nikita wants his fight with Creati to be as bloody as possible.

“I’m attracted to that kind of gruesomeness and if we can get it happening in this fight I’m happy for it,” he said.
