Red alert on gang of teens

- Charlton Hart

A teen gang that smashed their way into a Gold Coast Subway store is believed to be behind a huge crime spree across South East Queensland, police sources have revealed.

Three masked offenders used an angle grinder and pry bars to smash their way into the business on Christensen Rd, Yatala, about 1.50am on Friday. They were seen leaving the scene in a white Kia Seltos.

Police said the vehicle was dumped at Springwood about 30 minutes later.

According to sources, it’s then believed the same offenders stormed a home on Slobodian Ave about 2.20am and threatened an occupant with a hammer.

“They are f***ing dangerous,” a detective said.

“Serious repeat offenders and committing high-level offences. Multiple break and enters, burglaries and stolen cars. The community are at risk and they need to lock up (and) secure vehicles until we can locate these POIs (persons of interest).”

An internal police intelligence report obtained by the Bulletin reveals the Yatala break and enter is being investigated as part of a wider alleged crime spree.

The report identifies a group of six teenagers as persons of interest in more than 42 offences and the theft of more than 10 vehicles.

The alleged offending includes seven property offences in 24 hours across Carina Heights, Camp Hill, Carindale, Seven Hills, and Kedron in early April.

Detectives are also investigating links to a smash and grab at the Cheesecake Shop in Ashgrove about 3.20am on April 10.

The internal report states that detectives arrested a 13year-old boy on April 8 in relation to the spree.

He has since been charged. A 15-year-old boy has also been issued with a notice to appear in court.

Detectives are still hunting for two 16-year-old boys and an 18-year-old man and woman over the alleged crime spree.

“It is highly likely that further property offences will be committed, targeting insecure dwellings and vehicles,” the report states.
