Hove Actually BACK AND FRONT

Decorative mosaic panels add style to this relaxed denim jumper

PATTERN NOTES NEEDLES

Although this project is knitted flat in rows, you may find it easier to use circular needles, because of the weight and width of the garment.

TENSION

Because the denim yarn shrinks after the first wash, tensions are given for both stitch patterns before and after washing at 60ºC. It is important to take the time to knit a tension swatch for each pattern and wash before measuring.

NOTES ON MOSAIC PATTERN

When working the mosaic pattern, each row of the Chart represents 2 rows of actual knitting, and each row should be read from right ndto left for RS rows and left to right for WS rows. On RS rows, all stitches should be slipped purlwise with the yarn at the back of the work. On WS rows, all stitches should be slipped purlwise with the yarn at the front of the work. The first and last stitches of the chart will indicate which colour to use for that row, so black squares represent B and white squares represent C. On chart rows beginning with a black square, all the black stitches should be knitted and all the white stitches slipped, and this should be repeated on the following row. On chart rows beginning with a white square, all white stitches should be knitted and all the black squares should be slipped, and this should be repeated on the following row. Taking Chart 1 and size S as an example: Chart Row 1: Using yarn B K2, Sl 2, K5, Sl 2, (K1, Sl 1) 3 times, K1, Sl 2, K5, Sl 2, K2. Turn work and repeat for Row 2. Chart Row 2: Using yarn A K4, (Sl 1, K1) twice, Sl 1, K11, (Sl 1, K1) twice, Sl 1, K4. Turn the work and repeat for Row 4. This completes 2 rows of chart but 4 rows of actual knitting. The chart for the Back and Front mosaic pattern begins and ends with two ‘edge stitches’ creating a two-colour decorative edge for the garment sides, which are designed to be left open when the garment is completed. Unlike the Back and Front, there are no garter stitch edge stitches on the sleeves, and the pattern should run to the side edges. Armhole decreases should be worked in pattern and placed 2 sts in from side edges.

THREE COLOUR BRAIDED CAST ON

For a video tutorial of this cast-on, please see http://bit.ly/3colbo (both alike) Make a slip knot holding all three yarn colours together, then using 5.5mm needles cast on 109 ( 121: 133: 149: 165) sts using the three-colour braided cast-on (see note above). Break off yarn C, leaving the other colours attached. Knit 2 rows in yarn A. Beg with yarn B, starting at the bottom right corner of the Chart, cont as folls:Row 1: K2, beg with st 3 ( 5:7: 7: 7) work as set on Body Mosaic Chart, work 16-st repeat 6 ( 7:8: 9: 10) times, then work next 4 ( 2:0: 0: 0) sts, K2.

This row sets Body Mosaic Chart placement and edge sts. See pattern notes about working the slip stitch pattern. Work 2 repeats of the 16-row Chart. (64 rows of actual knitting). FINISHING & MAKING UP

Sew in all ends on all pieces. Wash pieces at 60ºC, along with enough yarn C for sewing up and casting off the neck stitches. Once all the pieces are completely dry, mattress stitch both shoulder seams. Using 3.75mm circular needles and with RS facing, pick up the neck stitches left on waste yarn, then using a 4mm needle cast off purlwise using some of the previously washed yarn. Insert sleeves then sew side seams starting at the cuff edge of the Mosaic panel on the sleeve, taking care to match the ridges of the pattern as you go and ending at the first row of purl stitch pattern, leaving open both sides of the mosaic panel on the body. Weave in ends and gently block once more, if desired.
