Row 2 and every alt row: Purl. Cont in patt to match Front and Back and working extra sts in st st shape sleeve by inc 1 st at each end of next ( next: next: 3rd: 3rd) row, then on every foll 4th ( 4th: 3rd: alt: alt) row until there are 63 ( 67: 73: 77: 83) sts. Work a few rows straight until Sleeve meas 13cm at centre, ending after a P row.

SHAPE TOP

Cast off loosely 4 ( 4:5: 6: 6) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 3 ( 4:4: 5: 6) sts at beg of foll 2 rows. 49 ( 51: 55: 55: 59) sts. Work 0 ( 2:4: 6: 4) rows straight. Dec 1 st at each end of next row, then on every foll 4th row until 37 ( 39: 43: 43: 45) sts rem. Dec 1 st at each end of every foll alt row until 31 ( 33: 37: 37: 39) sts rem, then on every row until 25 ( 27: 31: 31: 33) sts rem. Cast off.

COLLAR

(make 2 pieces alike) Begin at outer edge. Using 4mm needles, cast on 43 ( 47: 52: 56: 61) sts evenly. Work in garter st for 6 ( 7:8: 8: 9)cm. Cast off loosely knitwise.

NECK EDGING

Join shoulders. Using 4mm needles, and with RS facing, pick up and knit 13 ( 14: 15: 16: 17) sts from left side of back neck, pick up and knit 18 ( 19: 22: 23: 26) sts evenly down left side of front neck, K across 19 ( 21: 23: 25: 27) sts from stitch holder, pick up and knit 18 ( 19: 22: 23: 26) sts evenly up right side of front neck, finally pick up and knit 13 ( 14: 15: 16: 17) sts from right side of back neck. 81 ( 87: 97: 103: 113) sts. Knit 2 rows. Cast off evenly knitwise.

TO MAKE UP

Omitting ribbing and collar, press work lightly on WS, following any yarn care instructio­ns on the ball band. Stitch cast-off edges of collar pieces to neck edging. Sew in sleeves. Join side and sleeve seams. Sew buttons to edge of back neck edging. Work a button loop for each by inserting a crochet hook into the correspond­ing stitch on the opposite edge, chain 5, then fasten off in the next stitch. Press seams, following any yarn care instructio­ns on the ball band. Weave in ends.
