- Jennie Atkinson

JENNIE ATKINSON

is known for her vintage-inspired designs, and this wrap cardigan has a 1920s feel. The upper body and sleeves are knitted in reverse stocking stitch, while the lower body uses a knotted rib pattern, which emphasises the shaping of the garment; simple embroidery adds a pretty finishing touch. The project is knitted in Erika Knight’s British Blue 100 yarn, which is a lustrous Bluefaced Leicester wool grown and spun in Britain. It comes in eight sophisticated colours.

PATTERN NOTES

Stitch count changes between rows in the Knotted Rib pattern. Work partial repeats in K1, P2 rib, making sure pattern ends with a repeat of 3 sts before any shaping. All stitch counts given apply only after WS rows (when stitch pattern is a multiple of 3).

Join outer 22 ( 22: 22: 23: 23: 24: 24: 24: 25) sts of shoulders, leaving 4 sts of neck on each side of front on holder. Place 4 sts held for Right Front and cont in patt on these sts until piece reaches centre of back neck when stretched. Cast off in patt. Repeat for Left Front. Sew both bands to back neck, easing to fit. Sew cast-off edges of bands together. Embroider Fronts and Sleeve Cuffs using simple stitch and bullion stitch, using photographs for guidance. (See also our Q&A article on page 18 for more information on worked bullion stitch.)
