SOCKS

(both alike) Using 2.5mm needles and yarn A, cast on 72 ( 72: 72) sts. Knit 1 round. Next round: (K2, P2) to end of round. Rep last round until work meas 4cm.

Change to 3mm needles. Work rounds 1-12 of Chart A, AT THE SAME TIME decreasing 6 ( 0: 0) stitches evenly on the first round. 66 ( 72: 72) sts.

Work round 13 of Chart A, decreasing 0 ( 2: 2) sts evenly. 66 ( 70: 70) sts.

Begin pattern as follows: Round 1: K1B, K1A, K1B, work round 1 of Chart B for your size, K1B, K1A, K1B, work round 1 of Chart C to end of round. Last round sets pattern.

Continuing to repeat rounds 1-26 of Chart B throughout, work as set until all 34 rounds of Chart C have been worked once. 62 ( 66: 66) sts.

Slip the first 31 ( 35: 35) sts onto a stitch holder. 31 sts rem on needle for heel.

Cont on these 31 sts only in rows, work as folls: Next row: (K1A, K1B) to last st, K1A. Rep last row until heel flap meas 5 ( 5 :6) cm. Insert a locking mrk or piece of waste yarn on last row to measure foot length from.

HEEL DECREASE

Row 1 (RS): K to last 9 sts, skpo, turn. Row 2 (WS): P to last 9 sts, sppo, turn. Row 3 (RS): K to last 8 sts, skpo, turn. Row 4 (WS): P to last 8 sts, sppo, turn. Continue decrease in this manner, working 1 st less before each dec until there are 15 sts on the needle, ending with a WS row.

Continue working in the round in st st as folls: Round 1: (K1A, K1B) 7 times, K1A, pick up and knit 12 ( 13: 14) sts down side of heel flap continuing in (K1B, K1A) stripe pattern, pm, cont as set over 31 ( 35: 35) sts from stitch holder, pm, pick up 12 ( 13: 14) stitches on the other side of heel flap in (K1A, K1B) stripe pattern, beginning with K1A

( K1B: K1A). 70 ( 76: 78) sts.

Dec round: Continuing in stripe pattern and charts as set, work to 2 sts before mrk, K2tog, slm, cont as set across instep sts, slm, K2tog tbl, patt to end. 2 sts dec’d. Work 1 round in patterns as set without shaping. Rep last 2 rounds a further 5 times. 58 ( 64: 66) sts.

Continue in patterns as set without shaping until piece measures 18 ( 19: 22) cm from locking heel marker.

DECREASE TOE

Cont to alternate yarns throughout Toe in (K1A, K1B) stripes as set by the first 3 sts of the round, shape as folls:

Dec round: K2tog tbl, patt to 2 sts before mrk, K2togB, slm; rep from * once more. 4 sts dec’d. Work 1 round without shaping. Rep last 2 rounds 3 ( 6: 6) more times, then work Dec round only 5 ( 3: 3) times. 22 ( 24: 26) sts. Next round: Using yarn A, K2tog to end. 11 ( 12: 13) sts.

Cut the yarn and pull it through the rem stitches, tighten together and fasten. Weave in ends and block, following any yarn care instructions on the ball band.
