The Knitter

PATTERN NOTES

-

Although worked on circular needles due to the size and weight of the pieces, this design is knitted flat and in rows. Each half of the design begins with a deep panel of lace rib that turns into a 20-row travelling lace pattern that repeats across the width of the piece as it nears the centre of the wrap. Please note that over the first 11 rows of the pattern repeat, lace holes are worked on both right-side and wrong-side rows.

BORDERS

Borders should be worked as follows: On RS rows: Sl 3 pwise wyib, P1, work pattern as set to last 4 sts, P1, K3. On WS rows: Sl 3 pwise wyif, K1, work pattern as set to last 4 sts, K1, P3.

CROCHET PROVISIONAL CAST ON

Using a crochet hook and waste yarn, make a chain a few stitches longer than the total number of cast-on sts. Using the main yarn and 5.5mm needles, pick up the number of required stitches from the chain (working into the ‘bumps’ at the back). (For more guidance on this technique, visit http://bit.ly/carolcpo )

I CORD CAST OFF

With RS facing, cast on 3 stitches to the end of the needle containing the stitches you intend to cast off (use the knitted, cable or backwards loop cast-on methods). *K2, SSK (the SSK will join the third i-cord stitch to the first of the stitches you wish to cast off). Slip the last 3 sts back to the left needle tip and pull the yarn tight across the back of the work.* Repeat from * to * until you only have the three i-cord stitches left. Cast off the 3 i-cord stitches, and weave in the ends to close the end of the cord.
